Dmitry Menshikov picked up an impressive knockout win against Morocco’s Mouhcine Chafi at ONE Fight Night 17.
The 26-year-old Russian secured a first-round knockout at 1:59 via a punching combo against the Moroccan who has now lost his two fights at ONE Championship
Chafi kicked off the Lightweight Muay Thai contest with straight punches, quickly putting his no-nonsense attacking approach on display.
The Moroccan’s quick movements made it difficult for Menshikov to land punches in the first minute while connecting with an overhand right hand and a knee to the face.
As Chafi charged forward, Menshikov was happy to accept his challenge, using his boxing arsenal effectively.
Menshikov threw a big right punch and managed to knockdown the Moroccan for the first time with a hook midway through the first stanza.
Chafi contested the referee’s decision to count his fall as a knockdown, picked himself up quickly, and threw himself back straight to the fire.
With Menshikov’s back to the ropes, Chafi charged forward again, but was met with a combo of punches with Menshikov dropping him onto the canvas.
With this win, Menshikov raises his ONE record to 2-1 and overall record to 30-2, making a case for himself to get another title shot against Regian Eersel.
Meanwhile, Chafi has now two out of two at ONE Championship after falling to former ONE Lightweight Muay Thai title contender Sinsamut Klinmee on his debut.
WBC Muay Thai Light Heavyweight champion Chafi sees his overall record now drop to 31-7.
