Iran’s Mehrdad Khanzadeh picked up an impressive victory on his ONE debut in one of the most action-packed fights at ONE Friday Fights 40 on Friday 10 November.

In a Catchweight (54.43 KG) Muay Thai contest, Khanzadeh continued to push forward, battering his Thai counterpart Yangdam Jitmuangnon with powerful punches, elbows, and knee strikes to the body on his way to picking up a victory via unanimous decision.

The first round was one-sided as Khanzadeh rushed forward hitting Yangdam with a barrage of punches. With head and body shots as well as elbow strikes, Khanzadeh cornered his Thai opponent who displayed great endurance and determination to stay on his feet.

The Thai managed to escape the ring’s corner, but the 22-year-old Iranian continued to land powerful punches with Yangdam’s back to the ropes. The Thai threw a powerful right jab that pushed Khanzadeh away before the two men traded knee shots to the body inside the clinch.

As Yangdam went on the offensive, Mehrdad’s quick movements forced the Thai to miss several striking attempts. When the two fighters returned to the center of the ring, the Iranian threw a big right punch that dropped Yangdam. When the Thai went back to his feet, the Iranian struck with uppercuts and punching combinations only for the first round to end.

In the second round, Yangdam made a comeback. Despite that the Iranian continued his impressive attacks, the Thai connected with several elbow shots and punches that left Khanzadeh’s left eye bleeding. The two men continued to trade strikes and knees to the body until the second round ended.

The third round was a close affair. Both men charged forward but neither of them could finish the other. They traded punches and knee strikes. Khanzadeh came close to finishing the job again with a right hand that shook Yangdam, but the latter stayed on his feet.

The Iranian won via unanimous decision by the judges on his ONE debut – a win that raises his overall professional record to 15-7. On the other hand, this is Yangdam’s third loss from four fights at ONE Friday Fights.

ONE Friday Fights is a weekly event by ONE Championship that takes place every Friday inside the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, and kicks off at 3:30 PM Mecca time.
